MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 25th June, 2008 (26-Jun-08)
Veg:
 
Broccoli and Cauliflowers are up and down in price due to the weather but hopefully we should soon start to see a slight price reduction.
In general most veg is good quality, but remain high in price for this time of year.
Belgian and French Leeks are coming through very nice.
English courgettes have now started but we will stay on French and Spanish till the size of the English is a little better.
Potatoes are going to cause a big headache over the next few weeks as the price will continue to rise and rise.
English new season washed Potatoes are not going to be about till the end of July.
Banana Shallots and Round Shallots are still very short so the price still remains very high.
English Peas and Broad Beans are still excellent.
This will be the last week with English asparagus we will then be moving over to South American.
Savoy Cabbage is not at its best, as we await the start of the new English season.
Spinach is also very hit and miss still.
 
 
Fruit:
 
Fruit is much better now with the arrival of fresh Gooseberries.
English Cherries are now getting much better, all being well we should be using them by the weekend.
Peachs and Nectarines are still excellent this time of year.
Honeydew and Charantais are all looking very good though Galia seem to still be a little problematic.
Easy peel Satsumas are also looking very good.
Flat Peachs are also now available.
Blackberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Red Currants, White Currants, Black Currants and Strawberries are at their best.
We will be switching over to English Raspberries by the end of this week as they are starting to look much better quality.
 
 
Salad:
 
All salad is much the same as last week with no real changes as normal.
It is all coming through very well at the moment.
All Lettuces are looking better on almost a daily basis this is the same with English Celery.
