MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 14th May, 2008 (16-May-08)
Veg
 
English Hispi Cabbage Is excellent at the moment.
New season Spanish Primo cabbage has started.
English Asparagus it lovely at the moment.
LOCAL Spinach has started this week.
Jersey Royals are much more affordable now.
New crop French leeks are due to start.
Swede and Parsnips are also on the move up
English Carrots are due to finish and be replaced by new season French or Italian.
New crop Spanish beetroot has started.
New crop Spanish Swede and Parsnips have started but beware of the price.
Onions are on the way up in price as the English season ends.
Jacket Potato prices are rising daily as the old crop finishes.
 
Salad
 
LOCAL lettuces have started, Oak, Rosa, Bionda and Cos leading the way shortly followed by Gem and Iceberg. All being cut for us daily and LOCALLY priced.
Dutch salad season has moved into top gear reducing prices as stock available increases.
English Spring Onions are excellent quality.
Mini Cucumbers make a nice sweet change and are reasonable priced.
Good Celery has become hard to source, which has forced the price upwards.
 
Fruit
 
Soft fruit season is upon us.
Dutch Strawberries are more plentiful now; our LOCAL berries should be here by month end.
Spanish Cherries are much better now and the Apricots have more flavour and colour now.
Peaches are a lot better now and will be followed by nectarines.
New season Spanish Galia and Honeydew Melons are arriving now so we should see the price start to drop.
New crop Spanish are due to start.
Oranges and Apples are good quality but can be a little expensive this time of the year.
Pink Grapefruit is very short and hard to find and is on the small size.
 
Exotics
 
Fresh Figs still good and selling well
New crop Red Currants have started.
Raspberries still high in price.
Baby Courgettes have become very limited due to storm damage.
Banana and Round Shallots are very high in price.
 
 
Our Baby vegetables are all picked daily at our LOCAL farm in Ardleigh Essex .
