MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 7th May, 2008 (08-May-08)
Veg:
 
English Carrots are getting shorter and are rising in price.
All root vegetables are starting to rise in price as the season ends.
Courgettes still remain good quality.
English Pointed Cabbage is excellent quality.
Premium English Asparagus season has started, but be aware it only lasts for about 6 weeks weather permitting.
English Spinach has now started.
Local leeks have got approx two weeks left until we switch over to French/Dutch produce.
 
Salads:
 
All Lettuce is making much more money, especially Iceberg. English season about 3 weeks away.
English Little Gem is very good quality.
Dutch salad season is in full swing now; prices should start to fall as supplies increase.
 
Fruit:
 
Not much change in fruit this week.
New season Spanish Apricots have now started.
Peach and Nectarines are getting better on a week by week basis but are still coming in under ripe.  
Cherries have now started but are still a little on the expensive side.
Spanish Galia and Cantaloupe Melons are getting more plentiful.
English Rhubarb is very plentiful and very good quality.
Honeydew Melons are still problematic.
Plums are also not very good quality.
 
Exotics:
 
New crop Redcurrants have now started but be warned they are very expensive.
Blueberries and Raspberries are still highly priced.
Belgian/Dutch Strawberries are starting to come down in price a little now and are still excellent quality.
 
Full selection of Baby Vegetables grown at our LOCAL farm will be available by weekend.
