MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 13th March, 2008 (13-Mar-08)
Veg
Cauliflowers are now starting to go up in price.
English Savoy has now started and coming through very nice.
We are now using Cornish Spring Greens.
Curly Kale is still available and the quality is good.
Dutch Rhubarb is selling very well.
Fresh Peas and Broad Beans are now available
Purple Sprouting is a popular choice this week and is very nice.
Majorcan and Egyptian new potatoes have now started.
Sprouts are now finished.
Fruit
Black and white Grapes are good quality.
We are now able to source Ugly fruit but it will not be around for long.
Bananas are still high in price and the quality is proving a problem as well.
French Apples are starting to show end of season quality, waiting for new season
Lemons are very short and very expensive and the price is due to rise even more next week due to the entire Spanish crop being lost.
Salad
Celery is still coming through good.
Mix Baby leafs, Pousse, Cos and Ruby Chard are selling very well and showing excellent quality.
Iceberg Lettuce is also high in price.
Tomatoes and Peppers are very unstable in price due to seasonal change.
Exotic
Physalis is popular and Kumquats are selling well.
Asparagus is still making money.
Paw Paw is suffering with the cold conditions and proving hard to store, if you order best to use within 2 days of purchase.
Red Currents are high in price.
Lychees have now finished.
Due to seasonal changes at the moment, it becomes a very unstable market. Please be aware of sudden price hikes.
