MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 23rd January, 2008 (24-Jan-08)

Veg:

Carrots and Parsnips could start to rise in price due to the wet weather conditions.

Local Cauliflowers are very much hit and miss at the moment, so we will be forced to fill in the gaps with French when not available. Sprout Tops and Curley kale are still available and superb in quality.

Broccoli is still reasonably priced and Courgette price has started to fall back in line.

Salad:

Again no real change on the salad front, apart from Fancy Lettuce which is still making a premium price.

Fruit:

Fruit prices still remain high.

Bananas have become exceptionally short and have jumped in price due to a worldwide shortage. Quality strawberries are still proving very hard to find. Cape Plums have started to rise in price.

The price of Pineapples is quite high for this time of year. Apricot season is drawing to an end and they will not be around for much longer. Seville Oranges are still available so get your marmalade made now because they won’t be around much longer. Lemons are still making a premium price due to the Spanish crop failure.

Exotics:

Redcurrants, Blueberries and Raspberries remain stable in price but quality may become an issue. Cherries are still available and are very good quality but are high in price.
