MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 9th January, 2008 (10-Jan-08)
Veg:
Veg prices are stable at the moment and there seems to be plenty of produce coming through. We may see a price increase on Cauliflowers and Savoy Cabbage as our local supply will be finishing at the end of next week for a short period.
Parsnips, Swede and Leeks are all good quality and very stable in price.
Purple Sprouting Broccoli is very short and very expensive.
Jerusalem Artichokes are very good and reasonably priced is reasonable.
Curly Kale and Sweet Potatoes are very popular and very good quality.
Spanish Onion remains stable. Romanesque is still available and Sprouts are still in good supply.
Salads:
Once again not many price changes.
We have been forced to move on to Egyptian Spring Onions, but please be aware they are in short supply and very expensive.
Tomatoes have been very stable and reasonably priced with the exception of Cherry Vine Tomatoes.
Iceberg, Little gem, Cos lettuce, Celery and Baby Leaf have all remained stable in price and good in quality.
Fruit:
Black and White Seedless Grapes are very high in price and we are now using South African. We have also moved onto South African Plums.
Seville Oranges are now available, but are going to be more expensive in comparison to last year as the crop is much smaller.
Lemons are still in very short supply and very expensive. This is mainly down to poor weather and crop failure in
Satsumas have now finished, but Clementine’s are now available.
Comice Pears, Cox’s Apples and Russets are all still high in quality.
Blood Oranges and Apricots are now available.
Exotics:
All Berrie prices have started to increase, as supply shortens and the quality could be affected.
Fresh Figs are excellent quality.
Asparagus remains high in price, but still good in quality.
