MARKET REPORT - Thursday 29th November, 2007 (29-Nov-07)
Vegetables:
Not much change on the vegetable front this week, as usual for this time of year the root crops will gradually rise in price as we get nearer to Christmas.
Parsnips have already started to rise and maybe more expensive this year when compared to last year!
You may see a small rise in price on Spanish Onions due to the rise in transport costs due to the Spanish citrus season.
Courgette’s are top quality at the moment and are also well priced.
Round Shallots are very popular at the moment.
Sprouts and Sprout Tops are now in full swing and the price is still much the same.
Purple sprouting Broccoli took a large knock due to the cold weather recently and has become hard to find again.
Curley Kale and Black Cabbage are coming through very good at the moment as is Red Cabbage which is always popular this time of year.
Local Cauliflower’s are still coming in very good.
South African Runner Beans are very good at the moment.
Dutch Rhubarb has finally come down in price too!
Salads:
Salad prices are up and down at the moment which is normal for this time of year, however quality is surprisingly good for this time of year.
Cherry vine Tomatoes are particularly good at the moment.
All the Baby Leaves still seem to be coming in very good.
We’ve now moved over to Spanish Celery.
Mexican Spring Onions are coming in very well at the moment.
Fruit:
Again not much to say on the fruit side of things, all Spanish Citrus Fruit is coming in excellent.
Lemons are still hard to find and quite expensive.
Limes are very good at the moment!
Pineapples are also very good along with Pink and White Grapefruit.
We’re going to have to start changing Strawberries shortly as mentioned last week. The Israeli have now started but we will be sticking with the Dutch for as long as possible and they are still eating very well at the moment.
Melons are also very good at the moment, however they do typically take longer to ripen up at this time of year so please allow longer for riper fruit when placing your orders.
Avocados are also having the same problems as the Melons at the moment.
Italian and Spanish Sharron fruit is also very good at the moment.
Mixed Nuts and loose Walnuts are selling very well along with Chestnuts.
Exotics:
Fresh Figs still remain short and there are no large quantities around at the moment.
South African Peach’s and Nectarine’s are now well underway but the fruit is still very small.
Cherries have just started to show in the market but again they are in very small quantities and highly priced.
Fresh Cranberries and cooked Chestnuts are selling exceptionally well at the moment.
Courgette Flowers are very difficult to get at the moment as the Dutch season has finished and the Israeli season is very sporadic.

Please give as much notice as possible to help us out with our ordering for all prepared produce especially TRIMMED SPROUT’S!!
