MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 21st November, 2007 (22-Nov-07)
Veg:
Local purple sprouting Broccoli has been slowed down by the cold weather but all being well, will be back to normal by the weekend.
English and Dutch Sprouts are both excellent at the moment.
Local Cauliflowers are superb!
Local Cabbage and
Shallots, both banana and round have risen in price slightly.
Broccoli is still causing a slight problem with us having to switch between Spanish and English to keep the quality in check.
English Turnips are very good.
Courgettes are still Moroccan at the moment till the Spanish improve.
Local Spinach has now finished and has been replaced by some very good French Spinach.
Salads:
Cucumbers are now all Spanish and Canary produce along with all our Tomatoes.
Little Gem is now Spanish.
Local Celery will be finished by the end of the week and will be replaced by Spanish Celery shortly.
Spring Onions are now Mexican.
Red Chicory is still very expensive.
We’ve now moved on to Italian Radicchio which is selling very well.
Cos Lettuce is now Spanish and French as the English season has ended.
Fruit:
All fruit is pretty much the same as last week with very few changes.
Belgian Strawberries only have approximately two weeks left and will be replaced by “
We sometimes get a gap where we need to use American and Egyptian but normally the quality and flavour is not as good.
Lemons are still on the expensive side.
Plums are a problem at the moment as
All berries are coming through very good quality at the moment and Blueberries have dropped somewhat in price.
Exotics:
Fresh Cepe Mushroom are not available at the moment due to them being full of maggots!
We do however stock frozen and dried Cepes as an alternative.
Sun blushed Tomatoes in oil are another popular choice at the moment.
Fresh Figs remain short for the time being.
Black/Violette/Ratte Potatoes are all good sellers this time of year along with Anya.
Grenadillo’s are also readily available now and there has also been a small amount of fresh Lychee available.
