MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 14th November, 2007 (19-Nov-07)
Veg:
We’ve had to switch back to English Broccoli due to quality problems with the Spanish but we will change back to Spanish when the problem has been resolved. Brussel Sprouts and Sprout Tops are excellent at the moment.
Local Purple Sprouting is coming in very good and Local mixed squash is selling well.
Spring Green and Hispi cabbage is excellent at the moment.
Spanish Onion price is due to rise, This is mainly due to transport costs now that the Spanish Citrus season is well under way.
Black Cabbage and Swiss Chard have become very popular over the last few weeks whereas Local Spinach will be finished by the end of the week.
Pre packed Runner Beans are very good as are our fresh bunched Carrots.
Bunched Beetroot is something that’s often over looked at this time of year as are Artichokes, both Globe and Veg.
Moroccan Courgettes are also very nice at the moment.
Dutch Rhubarb is still available but very expensive.
Fruit:
The Spanish Citrus season is well underway with Satsuma’s, Clementine’s and
Spanish Lemons are also back in the market but they are very expensive at the moment, hence why we will be staying with Turkish for the time being.
English Cox’s, Russets and Comice Pears are exceptional at the moment and Belgian Strawberries are also excellent for this time of year.

Blood Oranges are still 5 weeks away at the bare minimum, it maybe longer.
Banana’s are quite problematic this time of year due to the cold weather so please remember to keep you’re Banana’s warm!
Salads:
Cucumber price has shot up as well as Iceberg Lettuce and Salad Tomatoes will not be far behind, this is normal for this time of year as the Dutch season comes to a close and is replaced by the Spanish and Canary seasons.
We’ll remain on Dutch Plum, Beef, Cherry and Autumn Vine Tomatoes for the time being but they will be replaced by the Spanish at some point in the near future.
This will also be the case with both Peppers and Aubergines.
Exotic:
Blueberries have finally dropped in price. Figs have started to reappear in market and the price should start to drop shortly too.
Papaya is exceptional at the moment.
Chestnuts are now available along with pre-packed mixed Nuts and “Red Diamond” American Walnuts.
Medjool Dates are another popular seller at this time of year along with “eat me” Dates and “dusted” dried Figs.
Baby Pineapples have become very popular and are selling well but please pre-order for any large quantities.
