MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 7th November, 2007 (08-Nov-07)
Veg:
Not much has changed on the vegetable side of things this week. Prices have stayed the same for most of the produce.
Cauliflowers are coming in very good at the moment and the Broccoli is now Spanish.
Brussels Sprouts and Sprout Tops are picking up in sales well along with Curly Kale and Chantennay Carrots are quite popular at the moment.
Potatoes are now starting to go up in price as we mentioned before and it is possible this will be a weekly thing.
Local Purple Sprouting Broccoli has now started, and French Horseradish is another very popular product this time of year.
Salads:
Again there is not much to say as there has been no real change…
We will shortly be moving a lot of lines onto Spanish produce i.e. Peppers, Cucumbers, Aubergines etc.
Iceberg Lettuce is now Spanish and the price will change regularly depending on supply and quality. Local Little Gem is now finished and will be replaced by Spanish. Whereas Lollo Rosso, Bionda, Oak and Raddichio are all now French.
English Spring Onions are on their last week and hopefully we will be moving onto Mexican or Egyptian for a short time.
Red Chicory is still expensive and limited in availability.
Alfa Sprouts are showing to be popular at the moment.
Fruit:
We will be starting on our first delivery on Spanish Navel Oranges by the end of the week.
Satsuma’s and Clementine’s are still exceptional quality at the moment, Brazilian White and Black Grapes are very good and English Russets Apples have become more popular over the last week or so.
Lemon’s remain very short and expensive due to the Spanish Crop being late thanks to the poor weather conditions we mentioned before.
Rhubarb is currently very expensive and limited in supply.
Exotics:
Blackberries and Blueberries still remain very expensive and short.
Fresh Figs are still very short and expensive and Golden Beetroot has now finished.
There are also small amounts of Peaches and Nectarines about.
