MARKET REPORT - Thursday 25th October, 2007 (30-Oct-07)
Veg:
Local
Celariac is another popular choice for this time of year.
Courgettes are a problem at the moment as many of the Spanish is coming through very soft at the moment due to poor weather in
All other root crops remain stable with no real change.
Cauliflower has started to go up slightly in price but nothing to worry about for the moment.
Also Broccoli will start to climb as the English starts to finish and is replaced with Spanish.
English Marrows are finished.
Runner Beans are now pre-packed and from
Mixed Squash and Pumpkins have picked up well over the last week along with Butternut Squash.
Jerusalem Artichokes and Globe Artichokes are also quite popular at the moment.
Purple Sprouting Broccoli is still short and not yet arriving in
Potatoes are now starting to climb in price due to the heavy rain we had earlier in the year and its likely we will see a sharp rise in price before Christmas.
Fresh Sweetcorn is also pretty much finished.
Salad:
All Salads now along with Peppers etc will start to change over from Dutch to Spanish as the season ends. This will also interfere with prices as is the norm for this time of year along with possible quality problems.
We have changed over to Spanish Iceberg and the price has risen along with that and may even rise again.
We have moved onto French Lettuce as all local have now finished, this will also effect the local
Fruit:
Brazilian white and Black Grapes are very good at the moment.
Limes have finally levelled out in both price and quality.
As mentioned last week we have switched over to Turkish Lemons now in the hope to keep on top of any quality issues that may arise.
Satsumas and Clementines are very good at the moment.
Brazilian and Israeli Galia Melons are looking very good along with the Charantais
We're also waiting for the first of the Spanish Navel Oranges to start.
Strawberries and Raspberries are in short supply but the quality is very good. Blueberries are still very difficult though.
Exotics:
Sharon Fruit and Persimmons are in full swing now.
Figs are very short at the moment and Black Figs seem to have finished much sooner than normal. We have temporarily had to move onto Israeli Figs while we wait for a late harvest of Black Figs.
