MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 10th October, 2007 (11-Oct-07)
Vegetables:
English Stick Beans are finished now and will be replaced by pre-packed South African. Courgettes are soon going to be changing over to Spanish. Rhubarb is very expensive
Local Leeks are coming in very good and there has been no change for Cauliflower and Broccoli.
All root crops are coming in very good at the moment and we can see no immediate problems, and there are also no problems with Potatoes. Celeriac is also excellent this time of year.
Spanish Onions are coming through very good, as are Shallots - both round and banana. Curly Kale is also very good and quite readily available.
Salads:
No real changes here again, all prices seem pretty stable for the moment. Peppers are going up in price but it is a steady increase. Local Salads will soon finish and will be replaced by supply from
Affilia Cress and Rock Chives are selling very well at the moment. And Mixed 'crunchy' Sprouts and Baby Garlic Chives are now in season, as are Beetroot Shoots - but please remember to pre-order these.
Fruit:
The first of the Satsuma's and Clementine's have arrived, and Persimmons (Sharon Fruit) are now in season again.
Strawberries have become very short and expensive and they are due to stay this way for a while, this is normal for this time of year. The shelf life of Raspberries is very short this time of year so please order as and when you need them and Blueberries are very expensive.
Carmel Galia Melons are very good at the moment.
Peaches and Nectarines are almost at the end of the season and will soon be finishing as they are becoming very 'woody and dry'.
Exotics:
The Wild Mushroom season is now in full swing and they are selling very well.
Fine Beans, Mange Tout and Sugar Snap Peas are all very stable in both price and quality.
Limes have become more plentiful again now.
