MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 3rd October, 2007 (03-Oct-07)

Veg:

English Stick Beans are now coming to an end and past their best. English Peas and Broad Beans have now finished. Cauliflower and Broccoli remain the same price though, although the prices maybe pushed up again shortly.

Dutch Rhubarb has become very short and expensive and English Romanesque has disappeared and been replaced by produce from abroad but is still very short and needs to be pre-ordered.

Parsnips, Swede and Leeks are getting better on a daily basis and Savoy is excellent at the moment. Courgette's maybe a little difficult shortly due to the French ending and the Spanish season starting. Celeriac is selling well at the moment.

English Bobby Beans are still available and Brussel Sprouts, Winter Squash and Butternut are all readily available as from now.

Flat Mushrooms are very good at the moment and are selling very well and Curly Kale is also very good

Purple Sprouting has started again but it is very sporadic in availability.

Salad:

Salad is very much the same&

Prices of Tomatoes will be very erratic for a while as the first arrivals of Polish and Spanish Tomatoes come in and the Dutch season comes to a close.

We're still on all Dutch Peppers, Aubergines and Cucumbers etc but as normal this will all be replaced with Spanish produce in the coming weeks.

Mixed Baby Leaf is still very good and Plum Vine Tomatoes are selling well along with Baby Plum Vine.

Fruit:

English Cox, Russets and Comice Pears are all now available and we have now moved onto Italian Kiwi Fruit.

Carmel Galia Melons are very good along with French Charantais Melons. Water Melons are still available but not quite up to the standards that we would like.

South African Lemons are still very good and we will stay on them until the Turkish moves along a little more. The first of Satsumas are due shortly.

Medjool Dates and Argen Prunes are very good this time of year and Fresh Figs are still exceptional and readily available.

Exotics:

Not much to say really. Fine Bean, Mange-tout and Sugar Snaps are still very stable.

Once again Wild Mushrooms are selling very well both the 1kg mix's and the loose although Cepes are a problem at the weekend and its best to pre-order them.
