MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 26th September 2007 (01-Oct-07)

VEGETABLES:

 

Cauliflower is still high in price this week but Broccoli has started to fall, it won't be long until we change to Spanish.

English Runner Beans are nearing the end of their season.

Pickling Onions are now in the market, and Winter Squash is also starting to show up in small amounts, with the odd English Pumpkin as well.

Round Shallots, Banana Shallots and Sprouts are all looking good. Especially Sprouts for this time of year.

Anya Potatoes and Black Potatoes are good but can you please pre order them in order to avoid disappointment.

We are now back on Local Leeks and Chantenay Carrots are getting better all the time.

 

FRUIT:

 

Lemons are still short and high in price and Peaches and Nectarines are almost at the end of their season.

Strawberries are still rising in price, as they are less available at market.

Angalino Plums have now started to take the place of President Plums. Water Melons are still good and selling well.

Cape Pears are due in to market any time now, and Kiwi Fruit will soon be changing over to Italian.

Pineapples will be rising in price shortly.

 

SALAD:

 

Local Iceberg is still good and Baby Mixed Leaf is selling very well as are Cherry Vine Tomatoes.

Salad Tomatoes, however, are up in price as we are coming to the end of the Dutch season and will soon be switching to the Spanish season.  

 

EXOTICS:

 

Blackberries are still very high in price, and Raspberries are starting to follow. Paw Paw and Star Fruit are selling well.

Mixed Wild Mushroom is very popular this time of year as are Baby Courgettes and Yellow Pati Pan.

Marrows are now at the end of their season and they are becoming poor quality. Purple Sprouting Broccoli is now available and is looking good. Savoy Cabbage and Local Spinach are both very good in quality.
