MARKET REPORT - Wednesday 19th September, 2007 (24-Sep-07)
Veg
Once again we are sorry to say that the price of Cauliflowers and Broccoli has risen again, but let's hope it is short lived. All other veg seems to be stable in price and high in quality.
Kale and Bobby Beans are now more readily available. English Sweetcorn will soon be coming to an end. And English Peas and Broad Beans have now finished. Romenesque is plentiful at the moment but it does only have a short English season.
We will be staying with Dutch Leeks for the time being as English Leeks are still having some quality issues. Cypriot Potatoes are very near to the end of their season and we have now switched to Ambo (King Edwards).
We have now started using local Cabbage and Spring Green and Calva Nero (Black Cabbage) is back in season.
Fruit
English Plums and Greengages have now finished. As have the English Strawberries, we are now using Belgian and the quality is superb.
English Cox's, Russets and Comice Pears are now available. Seedless Grapes will soon become problematic once again but this is normal for this time of year.
Honeydew Melons are new season Brazilian, and our Galias are new season
Limes have dropped in price slightly but are still expensive, and
Salads
Once again there is no change here, Aubergines are very expensive. The first sign of Spanish Peppers and Aubergines have arrived in
Local Lollo Rosso, Oak, Biondi,
Mixed Sakura Cress, Affilia Cress and Rock Chives are very popular at the moment.
Exotics
Blackerries are VERY expensive and short, and all other berries are highly priced. We have now switched back onto English Raspberries due to the price and quality. Red Currants are looking very good at the moment.
All Baby Veg (Carrots, Leeks, Fennel, Turnips, Beetroot, and Golden Beetroot) is fresh in locally on a daily basis.
Carmel Dragon Fruit is very good at the moment. Globe Artichokes and Baby Globe Artichokes are now good too.
Cherries have now well and truly finished.
Sharon Fruit is due to start any time along with Italian Kaki Fruit, Borlotti Beans are now back in season. And Baby Kiwi is now back in the market.
Wild Mushroom are all available (Girolles, Trumpette, Chanterelle, Pied de Muton, Pied de Bleu and Cepes) PLEASE TRY TO PRE-ORDER especially for the weekend.
